John holds a Law Degree from Trinity College Dublin, a Masters in Commercial Law from University College Dublin, an M.B.A. from Trinity College Dublin, and is a qualified New York State Attorney. He established Macklin Sterling Ltd, a specialist legal recruitment company, in 2010. Macklin Sterling was acquired by a well known Irish Recruitment consultancy in May 2013. In May 2021, Prospects recruitment was co-founded with Patricia McCarthy.

He has an in-depth understanding of the legal recruitment market with an unparalleled network of contacts. Himself a qualified lawyer, he has experience in recruiting partners in Top 5 firms, International Firms, Mid-tier firms and boutique practices. He has successfully worked with many national and multinational companies in Ireland, who were either establishing new legal departments or expanding their in-house teams.
